Requirements to Bring Your Pets into China

People arriving in China from abroad will no longer need to quarantine starting on Jan 8, according to the latest changes in the country’s COVID-19 policy. The flight would be resumed the following months. If you plan to take your pet to China for work or holiday, your pet should meet the requirements below.
*If your pet meets all import requirements and is free of infectious disease, your pet DO NOT need to be quarantine after arrival.
Kindly note that one person is only allowed to import one pet each time.

To enter China, your pet should be chipped with a 15 digit, ISO 11784/11785-compliant pet microchip. If your pet’s microchip is not ISO compliant, you can bring your own microchip scanner that can read your pet’s microchip.

A vaccination card/certificate is required for each pet, clearly displaying your pet’s current rabies vaccination, including the vaccine’s manufacturer, batch number and expiration. The rabies vaccination should be inactivated virus vaccine or improved vaccine or recombinant vaccine not live-virus vaccine. The rabies vaccination should be valid when the pets arrive.

The Health Certificate must be issued within 14 days of arrival by the government of the exporting country responsible for the import and export of animals.
The health certificate must have the following information:

  • Pet information: including species, name, sex, breed, color, date of birth, age
  • Microchip: including type, number, date of identification, location of identification
  • Rabies vaccination: including date of vaccination and expiry, type, name of manufacturer
  • Rabies Titer Test: including date of blood sampling, results, name of the designated lab (for non designated countries)
  • Animal health clinical examination results and date

The health certificate must be complete and can not be altered. If anything is missing, the pet will be sent back under owner’s expense.

If your pet comes from a non-designated country or area, your pet requires 2 rabies vaccinations and additional rabies antibody titer test.
The titer test must be administered at the same time as the second rabies vaccination or later. Results must be greater than 0.5 iu/ml& valid for 1 year. Samples must be processed at approved laboratories (see list below). Once results are fulfilled, the pet can fly into China.

Designated countries and areas: New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Guam, Jamaica, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau

All pets must be free of disease transferable to humans when examined at the port of entry to China. If the pet is not in apparent good health, further examination by a licensed veterinarian may be required at owner’s expense.

If your pet is unable to travel with you together, your pets can also travel alone as unaccompanied baggage to China. In this way, your pet should arrive in China within 6 months of you. And when you travel to China, please do declare that you will have a pet arrival later. You will need to collect the below declaration form at arrival airport and ask the customs officer to stamp. *Your pet would not be able to import from Beijing without the stamped customs declaration form.
